The Wheel of Life: Taking Stock of What Truly Matters

This is the first tool I’ve opened up for public use, a small milestone in my journey of building tools independently. Some of my other prototypes still rely on API credits, so I’ve shared only demos for now, but with the right optimisations, I’ll make those fully interactive as well.

Before you dive in, here’s the essence of the Wheel of Life and why it remains one of the most powerful reflection frameworks used by coaches worldwide.

This post introduces the Wheel of Life — a simple, reflective tool used to assess balance across work, health, and life priorities. You can explore the interactive version later in this post.

Most of us in the corporate world are constantly on the “go” – managing deadlines, back-to-back calls, aiming for promotion, travelling for work. Somewhere we have begun to thrive in that environment – attaching identity, life satisfaction, success, self-worth to our work. Unintentionally, we then begin to take all other aspects of our life for granted – be it our relationships, family, health or personal growth. All is well till it is not!

I recently came across a forward which said : “ We are all just one diagnosis, one unexpected phone call away from a completely different life. Stay humble and don’t take anything for granted”.

It’s a stark reminder of life’s fragility. If the unfortunate does happen then all hell breaks loose.

At the moment, we realise it wasn’t a single event that changed everything – it had been changing much before. The shift was slow, almost invisible, quietly seeping into our life – one choice at a time. That persistent ache you have been brushing aside, the harmless arguments with loved ones simply asking for your attention. The unread messages from friends. The vacations that never made it past the planning stage. Life had been whispering; we just weren’t listening.

Of course, it doesn’t always have to be that dramatic. I also know of leaders and professionals who have learned to navigate the work life balance conundrum well enough that when life throws a curveball, their wheel still rolls steadily.

Luckily, there is a framework that helps bring this connection into focus — the Wheel of Life.

It’s a classic coaching tool that visually represents the key areas that make up your life — things like career, health, relationships, personal growth, finances, and more.

By rating how satisfied you currently feel in each area, you can instantly see where life feels balanced and where it’s asking for attention. And when you add the target rating – the level you would like to reach, this simple tool transforms into a powerful goal-setting framework.

When you see your “wheel,” patterns that were fuzzy become clear.

Click on the Interactive Wheel of Life  and try it out for yourself. It’s simple to use and gives you a quick visual overview. It could be your aha moment – a turning point that reshapes how you live and lead.

It’s a simple three-step process:

  • Identify the areas of your life that are most important to you at this stage
  • Rate your current level of satisfaction in each area
  • Reflect on the target state you want to reach for each one.

That’s it – your Wheel of Life is ready.

“What gets measured, gets fixed.”
The clarity that emerges can raise powerful questions about priorities, habits, mindset, and direction.

You can even choose to work with a coach or mentor to help bring structure and accountability to that journey.

And awareness is where change begins.
